Prince Buster, Madness

Cecil Bustamente Campbell, better known as Prince Buster, passed away this week.

The Prince was an early figure in ska, and his recordings from the 1960s helped define the style. Everyone ska performer was influenced by him, directly or oterwise. The most obvious example is Madness, who named their band after one of Buster's songs. And recorded that song on their debut album "One Step Beyond", which was also the name a Buster song which they also recorded on that album. Oh, and the album also included "The Prince", which they wrote as a tribute to Buster.

Buster also did a fantastic version of "Enjoy Yourself", with some new lyrics. The Specials alter recorded their own version of Buster's version.

It's good to be wise when you're young
'Cos you can only be young but the once
Enjoy yourself and have lots of fun
So glad and live life longer than you've ever done

Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as you wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
